We propose effective and safety measures predicting limitations on cargo handling operations and mooring limits by estimating the calmness of port/harbor areas based on meteorological/oceanographic status and simulating moored ship motion induced by wave and wind conditions.

We propose appropriate means of reducing moored ship motion by evaluating the effects of long-period waves on moored ships, based on the result of simulation and field experiments.
Large ship motions caused by long-period waves occur in a resonance phenomena related to the natural period of the moored ship and wave action. In recent years, we have tested a land-based winch on moored ships to avoid resonance phenomena.
